This is one of the worst diseases that the Muslims are still facing with, so much so that even if they are presented with Qur’anic verses and Hadeeths on this matter they show an attitude like ‘I don’t care!’. This is to believe that one is superior just by the mere fact that they reside in a certain part of the world, to see their race, culture and traditions to be far better with no basis from the Shari’ah.
Please people, understand that ‘Nationalism’ has been declared an act of ‘Jahiliya’ ! What’s so hard in it to accept? Nationalism has no basis in Islam. And who ever supports Nationalism, strives for it , fights for it (in the form of Armies of different countries) are included in it.
We should take lessons from the sayings of the Prophet (salla Allaahu ‘alayhi wa sallam) who severely warned us against nationalism.
First hadith is for those who support different Armies. As long as these Armies are fighting for a piece of land, for the pride of a Flag they are fighting the war of Jahiliya.
>> In Saheeh Muslim it is recorded that Allaah’s Apostle (salla Allaahu ‘alayhi wa sallam) said: “And whosoever fights under a blind (rayah) flag (it is not known whether this flag represents the truth or falsehood), gets angry along with his group of people, or calls to a group of people, or supports a group of people, and is subsequently killed because of that, then he died in Jahiliya ”
Second hadith also includes different groups calling people for Nationalism along with the one fighting/dying for it.
>> In Sunan Abu Dawud it is recorded that Allaah’s Apostle (salla Allaahu ‘alayhi wa sallam) said: ” He is not of us if he calls to asabiyyah, and he is not one of us if he fights for the sake of asabiyyah, and not one of us if he dies on asabiyyah.”
Even a Mujahid, who is supposed to be fighting only for the sake of Allaah, will be thrown into the hellfire in a humiliating way if his intentions are to be killed so that people could praise him. (According to a Hadith)
Whoever wants to investigate more about it should read ‘Evils of Nationalism’ by Shaykh Abdullah ibn Baz Rahimahullaah.
